Approvals for World Cup men and World Championship 2022!

FIB Technical Committee has approved that the World Cup for men’s club teams will be played in Russia this coming season. As a way to further develop the tournament, it will be played alternately in Russia and Sweden every two years.

World Cup has been organized for many years and played in Sweden. Several games were also played at night when it was held in Ljusdal. Due to too warm weather, the tournament was moved to Göransson indoor arena in Sandviken in 2009.

Russian, Swedish and Finnish teams have won the tournament over the years. The latest champion team is Bollnäs GIF from Sweden who won in Sandviken in October 2019.

The new order for the cup to be played every two years in Russia and Sweden will start with the tournament being played in Russia this coming season. The date of the tournament is not yet decided.

FIB Technical Committee has also approved that the World Championship for Men 2022 will be played in Russia.

Bollnäs GIF became World Cup Champion through the final win over SKA Neftyanik 5-2 in the final played on Sunday, October 13, in Sandviken, Sweden.

BOLLNÄS NEW WORLD CUP CHAMPION!

Bollnäs from Sweden beat russian champion SKA Neftyanik in the World Cup final this Sunday, October 13. Bollnäs won 5-2 after 2-0 in half time. It is Bollnäs second victory in the tournament. Last time was in 2005 when the team beat Edsbyn in the final.

NEFTYANIK TO WORLD CUP FINAL!

SKA Neftyanik is ready for the World Cup final. The semi final against Dynamo Moscow ended 2-0 after 0-0 in half time. Neftyanik plays Bollnäs in the final at 16.00 local time.

AALTONEN SUSPENDED IN THE FINAL!

Ville Aaltonen in Bollnäs GIF is suspended from the final game in World Cup. The competition jury has checked video from the match against Villa and decided to suspend Aaltonen for a leg tackle on Villas Petter Björling. Bollnäs plays the final at 16.00 in the afternoon.

BOLLNÄS TO WORLD CUP FINAL!

Bollnäs GIF became the first team to advance to the final game of this year’s World Cup. In a swinging and dramatic semifinal against last year’s champion Villa Lidköping, Bollnäs won by penalty shots. The match ended 3-3 after Bollnäs took the lead 2-0 in first half. Villa came back in the second half and went up to 3-2 before Bollnäs set the final score to 3-3.

YENISEI READY FOR WORLD CUP!

Yenisei becomes the 17th team for the World Cup in Sandviken. FIB has decided that this year’s tournament will contain 20 teams instead of 16. It also makes this year’s tournament not only the best, but also the biggest in many years.

The organizers are now working on the last three teams to join the tournament. A job that will be completed within a few days.

 

Yenisei is former champion from Krasnoyarsk in Russia. The team went to the quarterfinals in the Russian playoffs this spring but have now further strengthened the team. Among others, Sandvikens AIK’s forward and big scorer Christoffer Edlund will play the coming season and will now be able to play the World Cup in his old home arena.

 

16 TEAMS READY FOR WORLD CUP!

16 teams are now ready for the World Cup! This will probably be one of the best club tournaments ever. 

Today, Saturday August 17, the fifth Russian team, Baikal Energy, joined the tournament. Previously, the other 15 teams were ready for participation.

It is still a great interest from several teams to participate. FIB is now working to bring in another four teams so that the total number of teams will be 20 instead of 16 as before.
