Helsinki is the capital and most populous city of Finland and located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Helsinki is the seat of the region of Uusimaa in southern Finland. Helsinki has 650 058 inhabitants and the city is the country’s most important center for politics, education, finance and culture. Together with the cities of Espoo, Vantaa, and Kauniainen Helsinki forms the Greater Helsinki area, which has a population of nearly 1.5 million.

Helsinki had a tumultuous history during the first half of the 20th century especially including the Finnish Civil War and the Winter War. Helsinki continued its development. In 1952 the city was hosting the Olympic Summer Games. Helsinki region tripled the population in the 1970s, and the Helsinki Metro subway system was built.

The first World Championships for Men in Bandy 1957 was played in Helsinki and the World Championships 1967 was also held in Helsinki, among other cities.

Helsinki is also the home city of two teams, HIFK and Botnia, in the highest Finnish bandy league.

Prime Minister Sanna Marin

Sanna Marin (picture) is Finlands Prime Minister since December 2019. She is 34 years old and the second youngest Prime Minister. The youngest Prime Minister in the World is Sebastian Kurz i Austria, 31 years old.
