DECISIONS ON TOURNAMENTS 2021-2022
The FIB Technical Committee has now decided on the conditions for the upcoming World Championships for men and the World Cup for club teams. The decisions apply to the World Championships which should have been held in 2020 in Irkutsk and 2021 in Syktyvkar and also this year’s World Cup for club teams. The World Championships has been postponed due to the Covid19 pandemic.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN IRKUTSK MOVES TO 2021
The World Championship tournament for Group A that would have been played 2020 in Irkutsk, Russia, will instead be played in the coming autumn 2021. The tournament will be held October 11-17. It will still be played in Irkutsk.
Qualified teams to play in Irkutsk are Russia, Sweden, Finland, Kazakhstan, Norway, USA, Germany and Estonia.
WORLD CUP FOR CLUB TEAMS WILL BE CANCELED
To enable the World Championship tournament in Irkutsk, this year’s World Cup for club teams will be canceled.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN SYKTYVKAR MOVES TO 2022
The World Championships tournament for both Group A and Group B that would have been played in Russian Syktyvkar this spring will instead be played March 27-April 3, 2022. Syktyvkar will still be host city for those tournaments.
